terminology

• anterior- to the front/in the front
• posterior- to the rear/behind/at the back
• medial- towards the midline or axis of the body
• lateral- away from the midline/axis
• proximal- near to the root/ origin. E.g: Proximal of the arm is the shoulder.
• distal- away from the root/origin. E.g: distal from the arm is the hand
• superior- above
• inferior- below
