  • The play begins in Venice, this represents the romantic aspects of Othello and Desdemona’s love. The shift to Cyprus, which is synonymous with disorder and war, fuels Othello’s demise as he’s a soldier surrounded by others in the testosterone filled environment.
  • Othello has spent the previous scenes saying that he no longer loves Desdemona, this scene suggests otherwise as he has an internal conflict.
  • Personification acts to take away Othello’s accountability, reinforces the idea that it is an honour killing. He is dispensing Justice like a heavenly being or God.
He cannot love her at this moment as she has betrayed him, but if we punishes her by killing her he can return to loving her. He feels emasculated and the murder acts as a way for him to gain back his power. It is the romantic idea of honour.
  • Race
