  • Film, also called movie, motion picture or moving picture, is an art-form used to simulate experiences that communicate ideas, stories, perceptions, feelings, beauty, or atmosphere through the use of moving images.
  • Filmmaking involves a number of discrete stages including an initial story, idea, or commission, through screenwriting, casting, shooting, sound recording and pre-production, editing, and screening the finished product before an audience that may result in a film release and exhibition
  • A filmmaker is one who takes the onus of a feature film from beginning to end, and most commonly fulfils the dual role of producer and director (or more).
  • ELEMENTS OF FILMMAKING
    1. Screenwriting – Also called scriptwriting, is the art and craft of writing scripts for mass media such as feature films, television productions or video games.
    2. Screenwriters are responsible for researching the story, developing the narrative, writing the screenplay, and delivering it, in the required format, to development executives.
    3. Cinematography – It comprises all on-screen visual elements, including lighting, framing, composition, camera motion, camera angles, film selection, lens choices, depth of field, zoom, focus, color, exposure, and filtration.

    4. Editing – It is the process of selecting and preparing written, visual, audible, and film media used to convey information. The editing process can involve correction, condensation, organization, and many other modifications performed with an intention of producing a correct, consistent, accurate and complete work.
    5. Acting – It is an activity in which a story is told by means of its enactment by an actor or actress who adopts a character—in theatre, television, film, radio, or any other medium that makes use of the mimetic mode.

    6. Directing – An extremely important element which involves the overall management of filmmaking and assures that all other elements are polished and integrated in the development and production of the film.

  • The credit of being the first Filipino to make a film goes to Jose Nepomuceno, whom historians dub as the “Father of Philippine Movies”
  • Independent film or indie film are films that are produced outside a major film studio and are distinguished by both the style and the artistic manner in which the director chooses to show them.
  • Independent or indie films may also be referred to as “alternative cinema.”
  • Mainstream film is described as films that are widely released in cinemas, often created in the machine that is Hollywood.
