Biomass

Cards (8)

  • Biomass is tissue from living organisms after the water has been removed.
  • producers are usually green plants or algae because they can photosynthesize. the gluecose produce will then be used to make other biological molecules that make up the plants biomass.
  • Biomass is where energy is stored in a plant
  • when a producers' biomass is eaten by a primary consumer, energy is transferred. Energy continues to be transferred along the food chain as organisms feed on each other.
  • To estimate the chemical energy stored in a biomass sample, use a calorimeter
  • A calorimeter burns the dried sample and uses the energy released to heat a known volume of water. Then measure the temperature change of the water to work out chemical energy.
