Social learning theory

Cards (7)

  • Who carried out the Bobo doll experiment?
    Albert Bandura
  • What theory does Banduras theory challenge?

Skinners idea that reward / punishment will automatically prompt / stop behaviour
  • Describe the bobo doll experiment
the experiment tests children by showing them a video of an adult playing violently or nicely with the doll, then measuring whether the child imitates the behaviour of the adult when given the opportunity to play with the doll
  • Outline the Bobo doll experiments aims, findings and conclusions
aim- to see if the children would imitate adults behaviour
Findings- the children copied exactly what the adults did
    Conclusion- children imitated behaviour
  • Name the mediational factors
    -attention
    -retention
    -motor reproduction
    -motivation
  • Describe the four mediational factors
attention- for a behaviour to be imitated it has to grab our attention
Retention- the behaviour may be noticed but it is not always remembered which prevents imitation
Motor reproduction- the psychical ability of the observer to imitate the behaviour
Motivation- the will or motivation to perform the behaviour
  • Define the term vicarious reinforcement
learning behaviour by observing others being rewarded from that specific behaviour
