  • define ionic bonding
Ionic bonding is the electrostatic attraction between positive and negative ions. It holds together cations and anions in ionic compounds.
  • why are ionic compounds solid at room temperature?

Ionic compounds are Solid at room temperature since there is insufficient energy to overcome the strong electrostatic forces of attraction between oppositely charged ions in the giant ionic lattice . Therefore high temperature is needed to provide the large quantity of energy needed to over come the strong electrostatic attraction between the ions.
